You Can Now Rent A Car And Drive Across Europe For Just £1

Drive across Europe with Driiveme

This is how you can drive across Europe for just £1

£1 (approximately $1.40) doesn’t get you much these days, but it now gets you a rental car thanks to Driiveme.

The deal is you pick up a car at a predetermined location (you can choose from a list of possible routes) and drop it off where it’s needed.

Many car rental companies offer one-way packages to customers where they pick a car up in one location and drop it off at another. Which means that a lot of cars end up displaced around Europe and in places where they aren’t needed.

Your job is to drive the car back to where it is needed, which is why you don’t get a say in the route.

You do however get some extra time and miles so you can make a few detours along the way. For example, a route that is currently available is Paris to Lisbon:

The drive should take just over 16 hours but you’re given 36 hours to complete it in which is just enough time to make a few stop-offs along the way and get a nights sleep.

The only additional cost to you apart from the £1 rental charge is fuel and any tolls you decide to take which is the same for any rental car service.

To quote their website:

Every day, thousands of vehicles need to be moved (usually by transporter trucks). To reduce the cost of these transfers, DriiveMe offers an unprecedented solution to repatriate vehicles using private individuals.

The £1 charge includes fully comprehensive insurance for the entirety of your drive across Europe and entitles you to keep the car from anywhere between 24 hours and 72 hours depending on the route.

Since you have to choose from a list of predetermined routes you must be a little flexible in your plans, but if you are lacking inspiration for a weekend away it’s a great way to get out there and scratch any travel itch you might have. There is an option to create an alert for any route you would like, and if it becomes available you’ll receive an email or SMS letting you know.

Of course, you’ll need to make your own way home but you can’t have everything in life right?
